Myotonic goats are commonly know as fainters or fainting goats. This is an American breed of goats that have a hereditary condition that causes their muscles to co tract for prolonged periods of time (stiffen or fall over) when startled. We do not intentionally startle our goats because I feel it can be traumatic for them. This trait does make it easier to keep them penned, since jumping tends to cause them to startle. While they are considered a meat breed, most people keep them as pets.
